5 Articles You Probably Haven’t Read on Prepper-Resources.com

One of your fellow readers Autumn recently commented on another post I made, inquiring about archived articles for those who might have not been following this blog from its inception.  With that in mind I started digging around for five older articles which were not already listed on the Most Popular page.  Scrolling back through the logs brought back memories, this was indeed a good exercise.  So for Autumn and everyone else who might have just started following the blog, here are 5 articles (and some snippets from each) you probably haven’t read here on Prepper-Resources.com.

Oct 24, 2012:  Organizing Your Survival Community

People who venture out on their own and haphazard communities thrown together at the last minute will have a much greater chance of failure in a post SHTF world than those who have not only prepared themselves but prepared their community. Structure should exist in a survival community in order to distribute tasks based on skill level and provide an outlet or means by which to resolve conflicts (and there will be many).

Jan 03, 2013:  Why You Shouldn’t Count on Hunting After T-SHTF

While hunting should be considered a viable option for providing food for your family after T-SHTF do not overestimate how much game you will be able to take, especially in the long term. Increased competition from (literally) thousands of other folks who will be desperate for food combined with traditional rules and regulations typically associated with hunting not being followed will quickly decimate the amount of available game for the taking, much like what occurred in the late 1800′s

Oct 04, 2012:  The Value of a Bicycle after SHTF

Typical speed on bicycles are 10 to 20 mph so we’ll split that down the middle at 15mph. Instead of taking 10 hours to walk home from your job after SHTF it now would take 2 1/2 hours to ride. Instead of taking around 6 days to walk to your BugOut location you could ride there in 6 1/2 hours (or maybe take 2 days factoring in fatigue).

Dec 29, 2012:  Rifle vs Pistol Training, What’s Your Ratio?

I am not trying to subvert the importance of training with all available weapons systems. I greatly enjoy using my rifles and training so that I can remain proficient with them. I am quite confident that if T-SHTF and I had to use any of my rifles for hunting or self defense I would be able to do so. However I also realize that because I carry a pistol in public there exists a much higher probability that I might have to use that pistol to defend myself or my family against a real threat, maybe even in a crowded environment where speed and accuracy could mean all the difference in the world.

Nov 27, 2012:  After T-SHTF, you will have to barter to survive.

You will not be able to hide the fact that you have extra food and supplies from your neighbors post collapse, it will be impossible. Communities come together during adversity and 1 to 2 months after SHTF people will be wondering why they are practically starving and you and your family are not. What are you going to do, tell them if they step one foot on your property you’ll shoot them all? Not a smart plan and quite frankly one that is doomed (remember these are your neighbors, not outsiders).
