You just can’t win with cars. If you have a new car maintenance is usually covered and repairs are usually not needed….yet you have a car payment OR plunked down cash to buy it at once. Either way, an outlay of cashola occurred.

    Or…

You are like me, with 3 vehicles all over 100k miles, gotta “drive them into the ground” so to speak, at least that’s what everyone says. No car payments and insurance is cheaper BUT…even with regular maintenance repairs are more frequent and more expensive. I just spent another $1400 on one vehicle and am probably around $3500 total this year on repairs. Various seals and gaskets, wheel bearing, brakes, throttle body, battery, tires etc etc.

What’s that you say, do it all yourself? Well the parts still cost money and my time = money as well (so to speak). I’ve had far too many DIY repairs take way too long (unexpected something breaks) or go over budget and quite frankly since SHTF hasn’t happened yet I rather value my free weekends.

    Thus endeth my rant.

Sorry, couldnt resist the above remark.

Am of the same mind concerning vehicles, all of mine are older than my kid. While I usually have at least one significant repair a year, i personally prefer this to having monthly payments and the higher insurance.

We dont do much driving, relatively speaking, though. I live 5 minutes from work if I make it thru the lights.

I have friends that have horses, and I think my car is still cheaper than one of those. 🙂

I have lost count of my vehicles. Some Gasoline powered and some Diesel.
I do all my own maintenance, short of rebuilding Automatic transmissions.
Done it, didn’t like it. Willing to pay someone to reman those. Manuals are easy and fun.

Engines, seals, bearings, heads, valves, clutches, welding, machining, fabricating and even body work I do myself.
Although I get my cousin to paint because of my lungs.

Does help that I have a 3000 square ft shop behind the house with two car lifts inside and all the tools one wold require to make a living bartering out auto and truck repairs.

One of those things checked off my Preppers list long ago.

    Machine I can fix.
My Grandkids tell people “PaPa can fix anything.
If he can’t, he can fix it so no one else can either!”

Looks delish KC!! You could also try coconut sugar instead of sucanat, works like a charm. And some ground flax and water works as an egg replacer
