Welcome new preppers!

Howdy, I’m pretty new to the whole prepping deal. I’m currently living in a small mother in law style apartment with my girlfriend, who I haven’t really spoken about this with, but obviously it will need to come up pretty soon as a good amount of money will be budgeted towards preps. I have yet to read the “prep 101” section 🙂 Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself.

Im prepping for travel and being stuck on the road. Im in the process of gathering the things I will need if delayed for days on the road through some act. Currently have water, stove, medium alice pack, things to boil water with ect. Need advise on other things I might need. In case Im stuck on the road for a couple of days. Thankjs all.

The first two things in my vehicles that stay are TP and good footwear (with extra socks). Brandon hit a lot of great items already, but I keep a few other things as well. Off the top of my head I like thermal blankets, med kit with basics like Tylenol, bandages, triple antibiotic, sunscreen, bug spray,mole skin. Small hygiene kit with toothbrush and paste, lotion, small shampoo and anti perspiration spray (for my feet, to help avoid blisters) I have a drinking straw, two flashlights, Leatherman, jumper cables, power inverter. I keep some kind of bar food, it’s been cliff bars lately, but I rotate those because I eat them from time to time on hard work days, datrex bars would probably be better if you leave them year round. I keep two mre’s year round. I keep water with me due to my work as well and I always have tools on my truck. Most of this will fit in an Alice pack with room to spare. With vehicle items staying with the vehicle. I put TP in a zip lock bag, med kit is a gallon zip lock bag and the rest I put in separate bags in the pack. I have two knifes in my pack (small and large) and a fire starter knife sharpener whistle all in one dealy. A quality compass and laminated map are the last things I remember off the top of my head. I could see a poncho and poncho liner being handy, but I don’t keep those.

Of all that, the hardest things to keep stocked are the TP and triple antibiotic and bandages because guys on the job site end up using them frequently.

I have been. . . flirting(?) with prepping for a few years now but prepping when you make less than $10,000 a year is, well, not realistic. I did at one point have a good supply of preps but when finances became tight, I had to utilize them. LOL. Guess that is what prepping is all about, eh?

Ok, so, being a female, it seems as though I am in the minority in the prepping community. I have noticed that it is becoming more frequent in articles and lists to consider us females when it comes to stocking up on “hygiene products.” Although this type of talk seems to be quick and written uncomfortably (LOL) and you can almost hear the sigh of relief breathed by the various authors once it has been mentioned. Not bashing here, just I know how uncomfortable such talk makes most menfolk.

So my question is, to any fellow female preppers out there, what is your stance on (WARNING!!! Men, stop reading NOW before you go from squirming to full blown seated seizures.) reusable feminine hygiene products? Not only am I a new prepper, I am also an environmentalist and have been cringing every month with the amount of waste I produce controlling something I would prefer to not have to deal with. I recently found (and am now able to afford) washable, reusable feminine products. There seems to be 2 schools of thought. 1) GROSS!!!! Why would you do such a thing. And 2) much better for the environment, the lady AND the wallet.

Thoughts? Comments? Recommendations please?

good morning all;
it’s 25 degrees where I am, (southern Va) i’m sort of a prepper, since it’s 20 miles to a food store so having enough Gas to do the round trip & food supplies For a while, just in case. being prepared is essential for me. been here a long time but haven’t set my self up like I wanted.
no one near me is prepared for anything, I do have a creek, but Beaver in it, so it’s NOT drinkable. I have fairly good woods, & a very small Garden, land sux to grow much.
just me & a couple cats occupy the place. I have no where to bug out to, but I have a bug out Van just in case. always ready to leave if I had to.
