Today I received two more books in the mail. How to be Invisible by J.J Luna and 31 Days to Survival by M.D. Creekmore. I have never even come close to considering myself a subject matter expert on any one topic and so I try to read as much as I can. I thought that Luna’s book might provide some nice tips on how to protect one’s identity and so far it has been very enlightening. Basic tips (which many of us violate) on how to avoid fraud and identity theft reside in the book along with advice on how to pursue the opposite end of the spectrum: falling off of the grid altogether. Many chapters deal with practical advice on how to safeguard information with respect to sending/receiving mail, what to do with your trash, using your SSN and DOB, Smartphones, Email, and ownership of vehicles and real estate. I’m about 75 pages through it but have skimmed over other parts of the book, it really is very interesting. So far the most revealing piece of information I have discovered is just how easily Private Investigators can dig up almost anything and everything on A-N-Y-O-N-E if the price is right. Truly scary stuff.
M.D Creekmore’s book is more of a step by step “how to” manual on preparing to survive a short or long term disaster. It starts with a skills assessment and then assigns a task which needs to be completed each day, for 31 days. For chapters which address topics like knot tying or trapping there are helpful pictures which accompany the written instructions, this makes it nice for those who might not have a clue where to begin. Lots of checklists and practical advice are in this book, it would be a great gift to a new or moderately seasoned prepper.
Both books can be found on Amazon, com, I recommend picking them up and adding them to your SHTF reading list.
