Just thought to throw up a section where we can discuss fitness, and this thread in particular where we can post some workouts for others to get ideas. I know the Maj does some martial arts but I haven’t done much other than BJJ, even then never more than standard grappling and hand strikes.

Today I did something different, my trainer suggested we mix it up and do a Muy Thai workout as he is well versed in many of the ninja-ish ways. I thought fine, why not as I’ll probably get my sweat on. I’ve done a few of those boxing classes and they are a nice cardio workout. I clearly misunderstood what he had in mind, and the first 30 minutes were only spent doing front kicks and knee strikes. 15 minutes in I thought I was going to hurl. We then progressed to a simple jab and kick, and then more punching. I was wearing shorts and my knees are skinned up and my arms feel like lead. Someone dig out their violin and play me a tune!

Always nice to mix things up every now and then.

Wow, that sounds like a great workout! Doesn’t hurt to change things up. And it can really help if you find you’re hitting plateaus with your normal workouts.

My knees kept sticking to my pants today, needed some more ointment on there…

I agree changing up workouts is key

Today’s workout was awesome, I really enjoy circuit type events because it’s muscular strength combined with cardio/endurance. It’s one thing to do a lift and wait 3 minutes, do another lift etc. But when you combine 4 or 5 lifts for 4 circuits with very little breaks it can be exhausting.

The last circuit today included rope pulls, weighted ax swings, and 20lb ball throws and slams. It’s unreal how much energy this type of stuff takes, so much more than traditional gym workouts.
