PJKeymaster
you mean to tell me the gubmint isn’t dispatching people to save everyone else? Bring them food and water and such?
PJKeymasterGreat topic. I’ve never done the dress socks under boot socks thing but have heard it does wonders. I’ve always subscribed to foot powder and moleskin if necessary. I know exactly where my blisters will appear and when the mileage gets in the 20, 30, 40 range (over days) nothing can really stop the blisters from coming on. It’s all about managing them.
Right now I’ve been working outside on my feet for 3 weeks and it’s COLD. my skin is cracking on my feet and it’s pretty uncomfortable. I use this stuff called Corn Husker’s Lotion, it’s outstanding and has helped with the healing process.
One more topic that should be brought up reference feet: Shoes and boots. Let’s put it like this, none of my running shoes ever cost less than $120 or so. My hiking shoes are always over $100/pair. My boots are similar, $120 to $150 per pair. Even my socks are expensive, because quality costs money.
My feet are important, and I’m not wrapping them in 10 year old socks and $40 surplus boots made of who knows what.
PJKeymasterThey don’t take up much space (no pun intended), why not have one or two? Throw a hand warmer in there and wrap yourself up like a burrito.
PJKeymasterNeed I say more
Same team.
PJKeymasterSure Kev, I’ll bite:
1. What are you prepping for? Why?
Life in general? Why does one have car / home / life insurance? In case sh*t happens.
2. How much money have you spent on prepping?
Enough to buy a brand new truck, maybe more.
3. What are the most important items in your bug out bag?
Water (and purification devices), food, shelter.
4. Should you need to defend yourself, how would you do it?
Depends on the situation. From a toy poodle or 3 year old? With a pillow. From a grown man with intentions on harming my family? By any means possible.
5. Do you prefer to prep alone or with others?
Define others. Family? Yes.
6. What skills do you think are necessary to have in order to survive a catastrophe?
Mental strength and adaptability. People think they have both until they are tested.
7. What special survival skills do you have?
Not many.
8. What is the best way to build a shelter?
To not have to build a shelter, but find one that is already made (existing).
9. What is the biggest threat facing the world? Why?
Gluten.
10. What would be your ideal bug out location?
5 star hotel with room service. You mentioned ideal correct? However most probable is a cabin somewhere off the grid.
11. What would be your ideal bug out bag?
One with all of the things I packed in it.
12. How do you learn new survival strategies?
Read, learn, practice, repeat.
13. How many days worth of food and water do you think is necessary?
6 months to 1 year.
14. How soon do you think a disaster will occur?
Disasters occur every day, just depends where you are in this world.
15. What items do you stockpile?
Anything and everything related to survival.
16. How prepared do you think you are should a disaster occur today?
Depends on the disaster. Short term power outage? I’m good. Nuclear war? None of us are good.
17. How many bug out locations do you have?
Wouldn’t you like to know.
18. Would you call your prepping extreme?
Would you call those who completely depend on the government for assistance extreme?
19. How often do you practice bugging out?
It depends.
20. Where do you think is the safest place to be during a crisis?
The place where the crisis is not.
21. What type of bug out vehicle do you have?
Truck, SUV, motorcycles, etc.
22. What advice would you give to someone new to prepping?
Read before you spend money.
23. What drove you to start prepping?
Making sure my family was taken care of.
24. How do you think the world views preppers?
Extreme, crazy, over the top.
25. Do you think shows like Doomsday Preppers gives preppers a good or bad name? Why?
I’m impartial. It’s entertainment and the people who go on the show are desperate for attention. Whatever.
PJKeymasterI wish I had a wood fireplace or wood burning stove. I do have a gas furnace, transfer switch generator and backup generator to that but both run on fuel. In a long term outage I’m screwed.
PJKeymasterlove me some Tim
PJKeymasterGuess what? Another letter in the mail today!
“STAND AND FIGHT WITH ME!, just pledge to donate $XX blah blah blah”
I’m done. No renewal.
PJKeymasterI even considered getting a lifetime membership once. Glad I didn’t, might have resulted in people actually knocking on my door once a week and asking for more money.
PJKeymastertonight’s contribution
PJKeymasterSurgeries change you for life, avoid at all cost. I’ve had a couple, not exactly optimal. Living with paid sucks but IMO it’s better than surgery.
FWIW, I worked out hard this morning but ate enough fatty food at the fair this evening to make up for it.
PJKeymasterhere’s a good one
PJKeymasterAs far as I can tell he was a cop and then a contractor. Eh…whatever.
PJKeymasterAt some point the clock will stop ticking…
PJKeymasterhaha! Good one. 🙂
