Good analysis. If the trucking switch were somehow flipped and everything ground to a halt for a week, it would be utter chaos.
PJKeymasterI’ve always wondered about those fire starter blocks. I guess when it’s wet those are certainly handy to have.
PJKeymasterMy back went out this past week. It was almost unbearable…this coming from a guy who flips tractor tires during workouts. I had to roll off of my bed / couch, my daughter had to put on my socks and shoes for me…constant pain. I finally conceded and went to the ER, some meds and a few days rest managed to help but it was quite ridiculous.
PJKeymasterVery cool! I would love to do something similar with my daughter, but I can see her saying “eww dad that’s gross” right now! Glad you were able to make it work and thanks for sharing.
PJKeymasterI’ve never purchased anything at a gun show. Never felt like the prices were right, mostly people selling to suckers (IMO). I’m sure there are *some* deals but they are few and far between.
PJKeymasterI stopped by a local gun store today. Over the years I probably bought 3 pistols from them, no big deal really. The shop was almost empty, almost nothing in stock. Apparently the owner made some bad decisions and they may or may not be on the brink of closing. It’s a shame really…
In other news NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY!!!!
Sure, ammo or guns could potentially continue to drop another 5% or so but why wait? When all of the Sandy hook stuff happened I laughed as others scrambled to pay $5k for an AR. If you have it you won’t feel the need for it when things get crazy.
Stock up on ammo, buy the gun(s) you feel you need and sit on them. Or go shoot them, I went shooting today…
PJKeymasterSo here we are in August, my shoulder is still not better. I haven’t benched in months, pushups hurt but are feasible. The good news is that I’ve dropped some weight but overall it’s annoying that injuries just don’t go away when given enough time.

Hopefully you have a good defense in depth plan which involves various notifications and…ahem…deterrents for those who might feel like looting is a good course of action.
What about during the day when you leave the home and may or may not get stuck 15 miles out?
PJKeymasterRanger: Good answer!
Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and lessons learned. Continue to keep us posted and stay safe brother.
PJKeymasterI prep for those in my family (close family) who might not be prepping themselves. I’m prepared to accept them if SHTF and things get crazy. However…this will mean that if they want to eat my food and stay under my roof than more than ever it will mean they will live by my rules….and work hard to earn their keep.
Or…
They could try their luck out there in the world?
That’s what I thought.
PJKeymasterLooks like you guys covered it 🙂
PJKeymasterGreat article J, thanks for sharing!
PJKeymasterbigpaul, another contributor from the big island east of us! Interesting you mention nobody came to see if you were ok, I suppose in times like that it’s literally everyone for themselves. Good thing you were prepared.
PJKeymasterWho gets on a list when buying a gun? Face to face and cash money! But I concede we are all on some sort of list somewhere, whether it be by credit score, drivers license number, voter registration, veteran, etc etc. My point is this, it’s one thing to be on a list but it’s another thing to be a person of interest on said list.
Resources are not unlimited by those who might be scanning or compiling these lists and in my mind it would be much easier to move from a number to person of interest if seen at a prepper expo, especially chatting it up at a booth with known militia types.
