I suppose those who think prepping is hilarious also believe the government will always be there to save them should something go wrong. 🙂
PJKeymasterThanks for the new link and info ParaB! I support all organizations that truly want to help vets.
PJKeymasterGreat job. Most people who have a decent amount of common sense can make minimal changes which will greatly increase survivability for a period of a week or two. Pack a bag or two, stash away a few hundred dollars worth of food and make a few contingency plans…
PJKeymasterHonestly Brandon, I bet most people don’t give a d@mn about the Constitution and it’s sad. Do you know what people care about?
– Social Media
– The next 4 hours in their lives
– Upcoming weekend
– Reality TV
– Getting into more debt
– Keeping up with the Jones’
– The latest smartphone
Honestly man, people could care less as long as they are able to go about their merry way every day. Surveillance? Monitoring? Cameras everywhere? Loss of individual rights by politicians who promise more safety and security? Ah it’s ok, as long as you don’t do anything wrong we have nothing to worry about!
Fools.

March 22, 2014 at 10:23 PM in reply to: Has anyone seen any fire starters like these in the States? #7667PJKeymasterThat’s pretty cool, someone stuck a match head on the mini fire starter logs that you can buy in the store. Still a cool concept although might be easier to carry alcohol soaked cotton balls.
PJKeymasterYou bring up a great point! Books are key, if things get bad there might not be an internet to refer to…
PJKeymasterthings are looking rather bleak, the next few weeks will tell
PJKeymasterJane
By exploring the realm of preparedness you are light years ahead of your peers who will simply wait on some govt agency to do something if things go badly. In essence you are preparing for a scenario where you would have limited access to resupply of food and water, maybe having to stay indoors for a few weeks or a month?
Here is what I would recommend:
– Have you considered using space under a bed or even a closet for storage?
– Look into foods that are high on calories and easily prepared, preferably with no cooking involved. MREs come to mind as well as canned foods (but those are bulky). Try to store enough food to last your family for 3 to 4 weeks, this should accomplish what you are looking for.
– Next is water, WATER, WAAAAAAAATER. Water takes up quite a bit of space but if things go bad it will rise to the top of the list as everyone will want it. Store as much as you can on site and if you have a bath tub consider a water bob which will allow you to fill up around 60 gallons. It rains quite a bit in England so maybe consider a device to catch rain water, and then a way to filter or purify it.
– Medications are next, make sure to have ample supply on hand for your parents. I think that goes without saying.
– Finally: CASH. Have some bank notes on hand in case you need to barter or purchase outright and ATMs are out of money. Stash away some quid beneath your mattress and forget that it’s there.
Any other questions feel free to post them up!
PJKeymasterHonestly I think it’s a joke, written by a conservative with the intent of painting a picture of how ridiculous they believe democrats are.
PJKeymasterHere you go
PJKeymasterTotally agree that there are some differences, but like I said overall I feel as if (my opinion only) that they are playing for the same team. People scream about intrusions on our privacy, most of which started with Bush Jr….
Had Romney been elected I’m not sure if we would be much better off than we are now. Didn’t he have Romneycare in his home state and support gun control? Of course he had a bunch of stuff which he wanted to accomplish but so does every President, and then they get in office and realize they might as well be trying to tow a bulldozer with a tricycle.
Bottom line: Let me live MY LIFE without the intrusion of gov’t.
PJKeymasterNot really. If you have two candidates who are selected to run against each other, one with an R and one with a D, who are more alike than different and who will advance the agenda forward…
The election truly has been decided before the first vote was cast. It doesn’t matter who of the two candidates wins because they will both play ball. This is known in advance because the only way you’ll get the endorsement to run is with major amounts of cash and major promises made. And yet the American people still fall for the “I’m for the middle class!” kissing babies and rolling the sleeves up propaganda every 4 years.
PJKeymasterBrandon.
I’m no uber conspiracy theorist but ponder this. What if the candidates are pre-selected before the elections even begin…and what if the outcome is also already known despite any “voting” that takes place?
Things that make you go hmmmm…………
Not saying that does happen but what assurances do we have that our votes really count for anything at all? We just accept whatever information that is published as fact and go about our merry way.

I too keep some 1 gallon water jugs on hand as they are cheap, easy move around and you don’t feel so bad about replacing them if you don’t use them. As far as storage you have it right on, make sure it’s a dark cool place in order to maximize the shelf life (this versus keeping them in a tin shed outside). Also never store the containers directly on concrete as you could face leaching issues, better on a shelf or carpet.
As for the shelf life that’s somewhat up for debate but I tend not to mess with 1 gallon jugs and stick with the manufacturer’s suggested expiration date. FWIW I only keep about 10 jugs on hand at any one time as I have larger containers with treatment solutions in them which can last 5 years.
PJKeymasterMy dog was not cheap either, and I opted for the “american” version of the GSD versus the west german breeds used pretty much for police work or military etc. After speaking with the breeder (who had both) I came to the conclusion that I wanted a family dog first, while the traits of the GSD would still be very prevalent. I felt that I would almost be doing the west german breed a disservice as daily walks or even hikes probably would not be enough to work the dog as hard as it needed to be worked. Not that my boy isn’t a ball of energy, the guy never stops.
I took my dog through a reputable training facility for basic obedience and some other stuff…this place also trained for schutzhund. There were a few dogs going through it at the time and it is very intense. I guess the instructors also have to evaluate each dog prior to accepting them, basically to see if they have what it takes. Both American style and West German dogs were there doing it and the trainers were pretty strict on them. It was cool to see just how well trained those dogs were, I kept thinking just how much $$$$ that had to cost.
I guess it’s like any hobby, if you are dedicated and are willing to put in the time and effort (and money) you’ll be able to compete with your dog and have a blast doing so. Good luck man!
